Lately I have been doing more hiking and walking. In about an hour I am able to:
- Get outdoors and enjoy sunshine, vitamin D, and fend of the pasty white.
- Pray and/or say the rosary
- Podcast
- Audible books
- Call friend or two
- All the health benefits of walking
Lately I have been a lazy ass and haven’t been doing the same amount of walking/running/hiking I was a couple of months ago. I now find myself very unhappy with my discipline and physical shape. Part of staring over again is deciding what kind of fitness focus I want to have. Do I want to focus on cycling? Lifting? Maybe prepare for a Spartan once those start up again. I haven’t been able to decide.
One of my hang ups has been that I want to lift and I want to trail run. I go back and forth as to how to resistance train all the body parts and also get my trail runs in, meanwhile allowing for recovery. The above video has actually helped me chose a path.
I will focus on the combination of resistance training (lifting) and walking/hiking. This way I don’t have to think too much about recovery. I can also get the time in I need to listen to audio books, podcasts, and prayer. I can also sprinkle in cycling and stand-up paddling.
